I’m searching for a place to live. I love traveling but at some point, I want to stay in one place. I’ve lived in the US for the majority of my life, with the exception of a year abroad in France when I was 16.
I know it’s going to be impossible to find a place that fulfills all my wishes, but here is more or less what I am looking for:
Calmness: I’d like to find a calm neighborhood in a mid-to-large sized city. I love the abundance of things to do in a big city but I hate the crowds that come along with it!
An Art Scene: I want to live in a city that fosters creativity and ideally hosts a major art museum.
Affordability: This is an easy one because “affordable” to me means any place with a cost of living less that’s less than New York!
Proximity to an Airport: Obviously I’d like to be able to travel! I’d love to live near an easily accessible international airport so I can take weekend trips.
Wine Country: I want to live in a country that produces world-class wine. I feel like a fish out of water when I go to countries like Germany, Belgium and the Czech Republic, which are totally dominated by beer!
Proximity to Beach: While I originally wanted to live in a city on the beach, I realize this is a little unrealistic due to the lifestyle differences that generally come with living on a beach. A city near a beach would be awesome.
Warm Climate: This is one of the top reasons I want to leave New York. I am looking to live somewhere that has mostly sunny and relatively warm days throughout the year. If I never experience another blizzard, I shall die a happy woman!
Do you have any suggestions on where I should live?
Well, we sound like the exact same person! I was googling where I should live next and found your post. After reading each section I was so excited to see which place you found as the answer to it all! I am currently down in South Florida but its missing something. I think I’m close, but not quite there. Please let me know what places you think align best!
Hi Kelly! Honestly, there is no “perfect” place, I think. It’s just about making the best of where you are. Personally, I settled in Paris! It’s not perfect weather-wise but I just love the lifestyle here :) xx
