Fontaine Saint-Michel: a 19th century fountain on the Seine River in Paris

The Fontaine Saint-Michel is a notable fountain located in the Latin Quarter of Paris, at the intersection of Boulevard Saint-Michel and Rue Saint-André des Arts. It was commissioned in the mid-19th century, during the tenure of Emperor Napoleon III, as part of a larger urban renovation project aimed at modernizing Paris under the direction of Baron Haussmann.

Construction of the fountain began in 1858 and was completed in 1860. The architect behind the design was Gabriel Davioud, who was also responsible for many of the public spaces and buildings in Paris during this period.

The Fontaine was inspired by the style of earlier Renaissance fountains, and it combines both Gothic and Neoclassical elements.
