Théâtre de l’Athénée is a historic theater located in Paris, France. The theater’s rich history and its dedication to promoting experimental and boundary-pushing performances have contributed to its status as a significant cultural institution in Paris, not to mention one of the best Parisian theaters to visit.

The theater is closely associated with Louis Jouvet who directed the theater from 1934 to 1951. The theater was constructed on the site of the former Éden-Théâtre, opening on December 31, 1894, as Théâtre de la Comédie-Parisienne. It was renamed Théâtre de l’Athénée in 1899.

Throughout its history, Théâtre de l’Athénée has been known for its innovative and avant-garde performances. It became a significant venue for staging works of symbolist and experimental theatre in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. During this period, it hosted the premieres of several influential plays, including Oscar Wilde’s play Salomé written in French, and opened on February 11, 1896.
