The Théâtre de la Madeleine, established in 1924 in Paris on the site of a former carousel, showcases English-style architecture and gained prominence with Marcel Pagnol’s “The Merchants of Glory.” Renowned for its association with Sacha Guitry, the theater hosted the prolific playwright’s 24 works between 1932 and 1940. Leadership of the theater transitioned from Simone Valere and Jean Desailly (1980-2002) to Frederick Frank (2003-2012) and Stéphane Lissner (until 2005), with Jean-Claude Camus taking over as director in 2012.
