After several hours wandering Amsterdam, I was more than ready to stop off at Louis, a rustic chic restaurant in the north western corner of the city. I walked in just as it started to drizzle and took a seat at the bar stools lining a window overlooking Korte Korsjespoortsteeg. I ordered a braised beef sandwich at the recommendation of the waitress, along with a house red wine.

As I waited for my food, I wandered into the main dining room, where exposed brick came out in patches along the wall. The dining chairs were made of natural wood, some with steel accents. A vintage cigarette dispenser hung on the wall, and books and board games sat on shelves in the corner. Exposed lightbulbs hung from thin black wires illuminating the space.

The sandwich turned out to be absolutely delicious, and before long, I found myself a meal companion! A little black and white kitty had hopped up along an adjacent bar stool. He must have approved of the dish I chose…
