I may not speak Spanish but I do speak coffee. Yes it’s perhaps embarrassing that the first thing I do when I arrive to a new city is to seek out the best coffee shops. After all, how can I get the energy to explore if I’m not properly caffeinated?
During a trip to Mexico City, I was delighted to find that the third wave coffee movement had taken over the city! There’s a ton of artisanal cafés you can find the capital of Mexico, and they do not disappoint.
When you’re done checking out the best art museums in Mexico City, have a cup of java at these Mexican coffee joints.
1. Cardinal Casa de Cafe
This was my favorite cafe in Mexico City. It’s located in the trendy Roma Norte district, and was never too crowded. It opens completely to the sidewalk letting in lots of fresh air. I love the decoration in this shop too – they have Mexican skeleton figures on the walls and globes on the tables!
Córdoba 132, Cuauhtémoc, Roma Nte., 06700 Ciudad de México, CDMX, Mexico
2. Espressarte Artisan Cafe
Espressarte is a wonderful café with super nice people inside. (how great!) The first time I went, the man working offered me almonds he was grinding. The coffee he gave me was super strong so if you’re into that kind of thing, this is your spot.
Monterrey 151, Roma Nte., 06700 Ciudad de México, CDMX, Mexico
3. Chiquitito Cafe
Chiquitito is a tiny café with delicious coffee. The place is literally a hole in the wall, so I’d recommend grabbing your cup to go when coming here, especially during busy hours! You can find all sorts of hipsters and pre-work business men here.
Alfonso Reyes 232, Hipódromo, 06100 Ciudad de México, CDMX, Mexico
4. Arrebato Coffee Bar
Sadly I came down with a cold during my last week in Mexico City so I wasn’t able to try this spot, but I’ve heard good things. Go and let me know how it is!
Calle Villahermosa 7, Hipódromo, 06100 Cuauhtémoc, CDMX, Mexico
5. Cucurucho Roma
Cucurucho was literally right around the corner from my Airbnb in Mexico City, so it was super convenient for me to go there. It’s on a very quiet corner and they have outdoor seating so I loved going there and actually being able to relax for a minute even during the busy morning hours.
