History

A child of the turn of the century, Roger Spinhirny was abandoned as an orphan with his brother at birth. A character with a big heart fascinated by the art of eating, he was kind enough to take care of the poorest in his neighborhood, offering meals every Thursday to the orphans of Paris.

In 1930, he transformed a shoe repair shop into a restaurant and quickly met immense success, becoming the go-to spot for high-brow exchanges of political and artistic personalities, including Picasso, Balthus, Saint-Exupéry, Mistinguett, Galabru, and even Pope John XXIII and the Queen Mother of England!
