France Cheverny Château de Cheverny

Château de Cheverny

The Château de Cheverny is a grand estate located in the Loire Valley in France, known for its magnificent architecture and beautiful gardens. The château has a long and fascinating history that dates back hundreds of years. It has been owned by the same family for over 6 centuries!

The château was constructed between 1604 and 1634 for the Hurault family, who were wealthy French aristocrats. The original design was created by the architect Jacques Bougier for Henri Hurault, the Marquis de Vibraye. The château was built in the classical style, with symmetrical proportions and elegant lines. The estate was also surrounded by a moat and extensive gardens. The family has had to undertake extensive renovations and restoration work on the château, and today it remains a prized possession.

Notable for its many stunning features, including its intricate architecture and beautiful gardens, it has also been the inspiration for many works of art and literature, including Hergé’s “The Adventures of Tintin” comic book series, in which the château was the model for Captain Haddock’s ancestral home, Marlinspike Hall.

Today, the Château de Cheverny is open to everyone and offers tours of the interior, as well as access to the gardens and grounds. It is a popular tourist destination and a remarkable example of French architecture and history.
